About Modern Eyewear

Modern Eyewear

Modern Eyewear was established in 1954 to manufacture spectacle frames principally for the National Health Service Scheme. A Small selection of frame models were produced (in acetate only) by the workforce, operating from the Company factory in the Bridgeton area of Glasgow.

In the 1970's the emphasis in the UK focused on fashion frame models and the Company became a wholesaler to opticians of a wide range of frame products supplying throughout Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Since the late 1980's Modern Eyewear has produced its own exclusive frame brands focused on two main branded products - Nico Italia and Herbert Klein. These fashion brands reflect a wide range of styles for men and women. The younger fashion scene is reflected principally in the Nico Italia Collection - the elegant sophisticated fashionista is catered for in the Hertbert Klein Collection.
